cinema history class: mill of the stone women

Session: Italian Gothic Horror Month, Week 1
Movie: Mill of the Stone Women (1960)
Directed by Giorgi Ferroni

As always, there may be spoilers here. And the trailer may be NSFW and/or NSFL.

Plot:
Researching the fabled Mill of the Stone Women and the associated carousel with female statues, a writer stumbles upon some evil doings. Hilarity ensues.

Reaction:
First of all, the trailer lied. This is not "the entertainment event of a lifetime." Still, it's a gripping story. It feels very much like a Hammer film, which I liked. There were also a lot of scenes in which I thought the Professor should have been played by Vincent Price. Watching him rant, and threaten and declare, I was imagining his lines coming from Price's lips.

The movie was more sexual than I would have expected, given when it was made. Which is not to say that it was full of nudity.

There were also a few times that I felt as if I were watching a Scooby Doo episode, though the ending is anything but Scooby. The ending, actually, has some delicious irony, which was fun.

Ratings:
Me: 7
Christina: 8
Ethan: 8
Sean: 2 out of 4
